Saint Catherine

Sacred mountains at the doorstep of the village

Saint Catherine is a protectorate of granite peaks, Bedouin gardens and centuries of pilgrimage. Here is what to see while you stay with us.

Mount Moses (Mount Sinai)

Mount Moses (Mount Sinai)

At 2,285 metres, Jebel Musa is where tradition holds Moses received the Ten Commandments. Most guests climb by night on the camel path or the 3,750 Steps of Repentance to reach the summit for sunrise. The round trip takes about 5–7 hours with a Bedouin guide, and the village arranges departures, guides and warm layers.

Saint Catherine's Monastery

Saint Catherine's Monastery

Founded in the 6th century and continuously inhabited ever since, this UNESCO World Heritage monastery holds the Chapel of the Burning Bush, priceless Byzantine icons and one of the world's oldest surviving libraries. It opens to visitors in the mornings, closed on Fridays, Sundays and holidays.

Mount Catherine & the high desert

Mount Catherine & the high desert

Mount Catherine is Egypt's highest peak at 2,629 metres, a full-day trek from the village. Around it lie the valleys of Wadi Arbaein, Abu Jifa and the Blue Desert, Bedouin gardens, granite canyons and some of the clearest night skies anywhere in Egypt.
