About us

A quiet village for travellers to the holy mountain

Morgenland Village was built to give visitors of Saint Catherine a comfortable base that belongs to its landscape rather than interrupting it.

The vision behind Morgenland

Founder, Owner & Chairman

Dr. Atef Abdel Latif is the founder, owner, and chairman of Travellers Group, Travellers Egypt, Travellers Media, Morgenland Village, Queen Sharm Beach Hotel, and Queen Sharm View Hotel.

A passionate advocate for tourism and the arts, Dr. Atef Abdel Latif first travelled to Saint Catherine in 1990. At a time when the region presented enormous challenges, from its rugged mountain terrain and harsh climate to its limited resources and remote location, he saw something beyond the difficulties: an extraordinary destination waiting to be discovered.

With unwavering faith in the potential of Saint Catherine, he embarked on an ambitious journey to create something truly different. In 1990, he began building Morgenland Village — a journey that demanded determination, perseverance, and a deep belief in the land and its people.

His vision was clear: to create a landmark destination that would become one of the oldest, most established, and most distinctive tourist villages in Saint Catherine, while preserving the unique character and spirit of the region.

Over the years, Dr. Atef Abdel Latif developed deep and lasting relationships with the indigenous people of Sinai, particularly the Bedouin communities of Saint Catherine. His genuine respect for their heritage, traditions, and way of life earned him a special place among the local community, where he became a highly respected and beloved figure.

What began in 1990 as a bold dream in the heart of the mountains has grown, over decades of dedication and perseverance, into a remarkable reality.

Today, Morgenland Village stands as one of Saint Catherine’s most established and iconic destinations — a place where nature, heritage, hospitality, and history come together.

“A dream born in the mountains.”

Our story

Hospitality shaped by the desert

For generations, Saint Catherine has received pilgrims, scholars and hikers from every corner of the world. Morgenland Village continues that tradition with a hotel run by local families who know these mountains intimately.

The village is designed as a series of low stone buildings around planted courtyards. Rooms are simple and warm, with handmade Bedouin textiles, arched windows and views over the granite ridges. Evenings are spent on the terraces around tea and fire.

We host individual travellers, families, pilgrimage groups and trekking expeditions, and can organise everything from airport transfers to multi-day desert routes.
